Plot[]

The episode starts with Voight overlooking a crime scene from afar. The crime investigators are recovering a body bag from the Chicago River. Alvin joins, and Hank updates him, asking him to get in contact with Lindsay. Alvin assures him that everything will be alright, and Hank reminds him that he did what he had to do, referring to the murder of Kevin Bingham from Season 3.

Antonio and Kim visit one of his friends, Marco, at his pawn shop. Marco tells them how recently his shop was broken into and trashed. He reported it to the police and got surveillance cameras. Marco then tells them how a teenager came to his shop and threatened to kill him unless he paid his boss protection money. Marco scared the kid away with his new gun, which has a permit. Antonio promises to check into the burglary and come back in the morning with more details. The following day, Antonio and Kim are on their way to Marco's shop when they get a call over the radio about shots fired. When they get there, they realize it's Marco's shop. Inside, they find Marco brutally murdered with the words "Kill, Terrify, Control" written on the wall.

Kim and Antonio update Voight at the scene, telling him that there were two Hispanic offenders with masks. While searching the scene, Homicide detective Joe comes to the shop accompanied by Detective Marcella Gomez from El Salvador. She is here to observe CPD homicide. Voight asks Joe if he and his team can investigate the murder, as Marco was a friend of Antonio's, and Joe agrees. Detective Marcella asks if she can help Intelligence with the case, and Voight agrees.

Meanwhile, Jay and Hailey go talk to other shop owners nearby, hoping to get some cooperation, but they are all scared and don't help the police. Kevin and Adam talk to Frannie, a local bakery owner, who says someone tried to rob her shop recently but got spooked when they heard the alarms go off. Frannie isn't scared of these threats and is willing to help the police however she can.

Kim, Antonio, and Marcella go over the crime scene footage from Marco's shop and watch Marco be brutally murdered by two young boys. While watching the video, Marcella gets emotional and runs out of the room in tears. Antonio goes to check on her, and she apologizes for getting emotional. Antonio comforts her, and the two walk back to review the rest of the footage. Back at the district, the team goes over the case when Adam and Kevin tell Voight how Frannie is willing to let them use her bakery to catch the offenders. Marcella shares an idea on how the team could set up surveillance at Frannie's bakery. When the kids come demanding payment, Frannie could refuse to pay, leading them to go and kill Frannie, but the team could set up a trap and arrest them instead. Voight agrees but is interrupted by Denny, who wants to talk to Voight in private. The two enter Voight's office, and Denny tells Voight how Voight's son's murderer, Kevin Bingham's body, was recovered and how Voight will be their go-to suspect as he has motive. Denny claims to be on his side and make sure that Voight's name is cleared, but Voight knows that Denny isn't.

The team finally gets an ID of the two teenage boys who killed Marco, Yovani and Alonzo. Their boss, who Intelligence is also after, is Raul Martinez, aka El-Lobo. The team set up at Frannie's bakery and wait for either Yovani or Alonzo to appear. Antonio and Marcella are outside canvassing the streets when Marcella mentions how Antonio isn't wearing a wedding ring. Antonio tells her how he is divorced and has two kids. Marcella shares how she was also married but later got divorced. Antonio assumes that the job got in between her marriage as well, but she tells him how her son died from a traffic accident, and after that, her marriage fell apart. Meanwhile, Hailey and Jay are doing surveillance in a nearby apartment when Hailey asks how therapy is going for him. Jay says he is actually enjoying therapy, as it is helping him deal with things that happened in Afghanistan and Chicago. Hailey is shocked but grateful that therapy is beneficial for him.

Antonio interrupts them, informing everyone that their suspect is approaching the shop. The team watch as a young teenager checks the surroundings of the bakery before entering. Inside the bakery, the boy approaches Frannie and threatens to get rid of her store if she doesn't pay. Frannie begins to get defensive and pulls out a baseball bat, but Atwater, who was undercover at the bakery, stops her and tells the kid to leave. The boy leaves and takes note of the store before walking off. Kim begins to follow the boy, and the boy passes the note to another boy. Antonio and Marcella begin to follow the kid and eventually split up. Marcella sees the boy give the note to a girl on a skateboard and begins to follow her. Kim asks for Marcella's location but doesn't get an answer. Marcella follows the girl to a backyard and is about to enter when Kim meets up with her, asking what happened. Marcella lies and tells Kim that she lost the girl, but Kim knows she is lying. The team finally meets up and realizes that the kids are sneakier than they thought.

Back at the district, Trudy stops Kim and gives her a package delivered by a detective from gangs for Marcella. Kim is confused as to why Marcella is getting help from Gangs, so she opens the package and finds it full of information about El-Lobo and his organization. She calls Antonio but doesn't get a response. Meanwhile, Antonio and Marcella are having drinks at Marcella's hotel bar. They bond over their single lives when Marcella invites him to her hotel room. Antonio hesitates, but Marcella persists he comes, and they both share a kiss.

The next morning Marcella wakes Antonio up, telling him that Kim has been calling. She is dressed and ready to go to work, which confuses Antonio after their night. Meantime, Al tells Voight how he has updated Lindsay on the Bingham situation, and she is solid. Alvin seems cool about this situation, but Voight knows that Denny won't stop until he wins, but Al assures him that he has Voight's back. At the district, Kim waits for Antonio to arrive and tells him about the package for Marcella from Gangs. Kim believes that Marcella is playing them somehow, but Antonio doesn't think so. During their surveillance, Antonio asks Marcella about the package she got from Gangs. She tells them how she met a detective from Gangs during an old case, and she thought he could help them with their current El-Lobo case. Kim, who is still not convinced that Marcella is here for good, meets ups with the detective from gangs, Keith O'Brien, and asks about Marcella. He tells her how Marcella had contacted him two months ago from El Salvador about El Lobo, which confuses Kim even more.

The team is back surveilling the shops when Hailey and Jay notice movement outside the back of the bakery. The two offenders, Yovani and Alonzo, enter the rear of the bakery armed, and the team moves in. Inside, Adam, Kevin, Antonio, and Marcella surround the boys telling them to drop their knives, but Yovani lunges at Adam, so Kevin shoots and kills him. Alonzo gets scared and drops his knife, and Antonio arrests him.

At the district, Adam brings in Alonzo while Antonio and Marcel update Voight on what happened. Alonzo was severely beaten before his arrest, which Marcela tells them is some sort of Gang initiation. Marcella also tells them that Alonzo looked scared in the video of Marco's murder, proving to be his first kill. Voight and Antonio interrogate Alonzo, trying to scare him, but he stays quiet. Annoyed, Voight begins to play tough and decides to make a deal with him, asking for El-Lobo's location in exchange. Alonzo agrees and tells them where El-Lobo is, giving them a vague description of the house El-Lobo was staying at. In the observation room, Marcella is watching the interrogation when Kim walks in and asks why she lied to her. Marcella tells her she isn't lying and leaves the room, and Kim follows her into the parking lot, watching her get into a car with another man. She takes a picture of the man and sends it to Adam, who runs it through facial recognition. While looking into Marcella, she discovers that Marcella's son was murdered by El-Lobo in El Salvador. Adam gets the name of the guy in the car, Francisco Flores, the leader of a group who came to Chicago to kill El-Lobo.

Kim updates Antonio about this, and Antonio is shocked to hear that Marcella is playing them. Jay finally gets an address on El-Lobo, and the team goes there. When they get there, the house is empty except for a mother and her kids hiding. The house is trashed, and one of El-Lobo's men is dead. Outside, there is a trail of blood that ends in an alleyway. After talking to the woman hiding, Antonio tells the team how Marcella and Francisco already came and took El-Lobo after killing his man.

Back at the district, the team continue to search for Marcella but get no leads at airports and local hospitals. Hailey and Kevin, after checking Marcella's phone, find an empty house where they think Marcella is keeping El-Lobo. They go to the address and find El-Lobo tied up to a chair and Marcella pointing a gun at his head. Antonio tries to talk her down from killing El-Lobo, but she ignores him and shoots El-Lobo in the head. She then points her gun at Antonio, and he has no choice but to shoot and kill her.

Back at the district, Antonio is clearing the board when Kim asks if Antonio will be alright. Antonio says yes and apologizes to Kim for not believing her. She accepts his apology, and they share a fist bump. Voight later joins Antonio in the bullpen and reminds him that Marcella came to Chicago with a motive, and nobody could have changed her mind. Later that night, Denny joins Voight at a bar and tells him the outcome of the Bingham investigation. He informs Voight that the techs were able to recover a slug from the body, which matches a gun from an old robbery case. The weapon was never recovered by the police, but Voight was one of the arresting officers in that case. Denny reminds Voight how he is close to bringing Voight down as their game is about to end. Denny leaves the bar, and Voight finishes his drink, realizing the truth about Kevin Bingham is soon to come out.

Quotes[]

Dawson: So you were telling me about how much you like being single.
Marcella Gomez: Mmm, oh yeah, it's fantastic. I love swiping right, or left. It's so romantic, you know.

Marcella Gomez: I'm sorry. I don't know what to think about a guy who carries tissues in his jacket.
Dawson: What? Well, he's either incredibly sensitive, he's got a cold, or he's prepared for winter in Chicago.
